A huge victory for Barack Obama in the Iowa Caucus last night! Winning by 9 and 10% over Edwards and Clinton gives amazing momentum to this candidate of hope in what is being called the most important election in modern history. I encourage all of my readers (even if you think your mind is made up) to go to Barack Obama's website and listen to some of the speeches they have there. Even if they don't change your vote, they will make you think and re-evaluate where America is headed and the "audacity of hope" that Obama hopes to bring.

Get Smart and End Hunger

Here is a link to a site that will test your vocabulary knowledge and for every time you click they donate 10 grains of rice through the United Nations to end world hunger. Ten grains may not seem like a lot but the game is very quick and you could click many many times in a relatively short period. It's kind of addicting too...but I rationalized it by telling my self that it was for a good cause!!!

This Is Getting Ridiculous

I'm not kidding when I say that EVERYday I get another email from the Consumer Product Safety Commission about more and more children's product recalls. For the first time today the alert contained information about a toy we have in this house. The Curious George doll that has been recalled is one that was given as a gift to Jack for his second birthday. It will certainly be a delicate process to extract it from him because he LOVES George. But all of my kids are very aware of all of the recalls and Annie is checking everything to see where it is made - and if it is made in China she is convinced it must be thrown out and burned in the fiery furnace of toy death.

I am getting so overwhelmed about all of these concerns, especially with a new baby on the way. I feel as if I should be making all homemade toys for the baby. None of my kids really put things in their mouths any longer but a baby most certainly will. As if there isn't enough to worry about with kids...now their toys are poisonous. OY!

We're Famous!

It's a Football Night in Pittsburgh

Tonight Pittsburgh takes center stage in the NFL as we host Monday Night Football. And even though MNF isn't what it once was back in the days of Dandy Don, Frank Gifford, and Al Michaels (and the new hosts are just awful) it is still an honor to have MNF in our town. The Steelers will get showcased in a special way and they are playing their number one rival (and my most HATED team of all time) the Baltimore Ravens...BOO!

Last year the Ravens humiliated us not once but twice and it is time for some redemption in da burgh. Not to mention that if we lose we enter into a three way tie for the lead in our division...and we don't want that!

So wherever you are, help me cheer the Black and Gold onto victory...especially in the latter parts of the second half when I cannot guarantee I will still be awake!

Please take the time

I don't do this on my blog too often but I am pleading with any of you who haven't seen this video to watch it. It is about Kyle, a 5 year old little boy who was killed when his seat belt failed in a car accident. Kyle was in an approved booster seat, held into the car by a regular seat belt...but, tragically, when the car rolled the seat belt gave out and Kyle was thrown from the car and died.

Kyle's parents just did what so many of us do...they moved their son to a legal, approved booster seat when he outgrew his 5 point harness car seat. But that IS NOT the safest option for kids under 80 pounds. There are a few companies that manufacture 5 point harness car seats for children up to 80 pounds and these are the safest option for your children (and mine).

PSA: Petting zoos are EVIL

I have always hated petting zoos, they are gross and seem inhumane on many levels. Plus the animals never seem well cared for or happy. But now I have a very important reason to stay away and I wanted to pass it along.

I had always heard that petting zoos were ripe with bacteria and now on a message board I frequent there is a woman who was recently at a petting zoo with her children and now they are all sick. The woman contracted a heart infection and had to have open heart surgery and the girls have been suffering with a nasty fever for days with no explanation. While the doctors aren't saying that the petting zoo caused all of this they took great interest in the fact that they were there saying that sheep carry the very virus they found in the woman's heart.

So please stay away from petting zoos...they can be very dangerous to people, not to mention animals.

The JOY of new life!!!

I am so happy tonight. I feel relieved and at peace and content. My dear friends Lisa and Ron welcomed their twins today. A little boy and a little girl came into the world this morning to two amazing parents. Ron and Lisa's first child was stillborn just over two years ago...making the birth of these babies the fulfillment of many dreams that have gone unrealized for far too long.

So welcome precious littles...I love you and I'm so glad you're finally here.
